Dr Jart+ Cicapair collection

20170612_211837-01-01A little over a month ago I knew I would be having micro-needling ( post on that experience soon) done underneath my eyes and that there would also be issues with puffy irritated red skin. There are also so many brands popping up with the word “cica” that I decided to look into the ingredient.

The word cicatrize refers to the healing process of the skin when a protective scar is formed. This combined with the word “repair” and voila!…Cica-pair. With that mystery solved, I looked at the Tiger Grass ingredient. Tiger Grass is another name for Centella Asiatica(massively popular ingredient in Korean skincare!)which has long been used for wound healing in Asia. It apparently got its nickname “tiger grass” from an ancient legend.

“Cicapair™ Collection is inspired by the true legend of Asian Tigers, rolling in Centella Asiatica to heal their battle wounds. Also known as tiger grass, its medicinal use has been recognized for centuries. For generations, this active ingredient has also been recognized as a recovery system to help support wounded skin exhibiting inflammation, redness, or blemishes.”

Centella Asiatica has tons of benefits  as well as

and thought it would be a great time to test its calming and soothing ability’s out. I picked up a collection of all the brand Dr Jart had to offer in their Cicapair line.

Included in this collection…

Dermaclear Micro Foam Cleanser

Dermaclear Micro Water

Soothing Hydra Solution Mask

Cicapair Serum (not sold in USA/Canada…only on ebay)

Cicapair Cream

Cicapair Re-cover Color Corrector

Cicapair Night Repair (not sold in USA/Canada…only on ebay)

First I tried the Cicapair cream which I found very similar to Dr Jart’s already popular, Ceramidin. I almost couldn’t tell the difference except for a light minty smell and a slight green cast but since I love Ceramidin, I knew I would love Cicapair cream.

Fast forward to the day after microneedling when the bandages under my eyes could come off and I could finally cleanse the area delicately.

So first up was the Cleansing Micro Foam. I was really not impressed by this. I used it twice only to give it a second chance but, it reminded me of Noxema cream cleanser! It stripped my face of all of its oils and that is NOT what I wanted In a cleanser. My face felt like a rubber balloon when you drag your finger across it very…squeaky and stripped of all its oils.

Luckily of the entire group that was the one item I was not in love with. Next came the Dermaclear Micro Water. I loved this instead of using the Micro Foam at all in the routine. I just used the Micro Water after I would dissolve any make up with my oil cleanser first. My skin felt clean but, hydrated because it didn’t feel like it stripped every single ounce of oil from my face. It left me with a moisturized, clean feeling without any breakouts and without having to wash the Micro Water off. I love a good cleansing water!

So for the 1st week I used nothing but the Cicapair line morning and night. Particularly helpful were the Night Serum and Night Repair. They were so incredibly calming and moisturizing. The serum soaked right into my skin and I was able to apply it directly under my eyes to help the inflammation and redness.

The Night Repair felt amazing and kept all of my skin hydrated through the night without any loss of moisture and calmed it at the same time. I would wake up with less red/pink irritated skin.

During the day I was able to wear make up, but it didn’t feel very comfortable so the Cicapair Re-Cover was a life saver! It felt similar to a BB cream but less of a “make up ”  and more of a moisturizing cream so it didn’t feel like I was covering up my skin or further irritating it. The minty green tint to the cream was really helpful in neutralizing the red and pink tones that stayed with my skin for about 1 to 2 weeks.

Though I really loved the Cicapair Cream, other than the minty smell, I couldn’t really feel a difference between it and Dr. Jart’s Award-winning Ceramidin, which I also keep a continuous stock of in my cabinet. I like it… I’ll use the tube of course, but I’ll probably stick with the basic Ceramidin.

This set of Cicapair items also came with a Soothing Hydro Mask and without fail, I usually love any Dr. Jart mask with varying degrees of love.  However, my first impression of this mask was less than stellar because if its incredibly pungent smell.  It brought to mind the similar smell of Campho-phenique (something kids from the 80s would remember… if you fell down or got a scrape your mother might first grab and douse you in Campo-Phenique to which you would smell like a strange minty medicine/bug spray.) The smell aside, it felt incredibly cooling and soothing for my entire face but especially for the under eye area which was still very tender. Also upon taking the mask off after the allotted amount of time in the directions, every bit of red or pink skin was immediately calmed. I was shocked and I absolutely love this mask! I will repurchase it again and again! I’m on my 5th mask now. At first impression the smell was too strong, but like a lot of things that are good for you, you get used to it and then you begin to actually love! I look forward to cracking open a fresh mask now…positively addictive!

I loved everything in this entire set minus the Dermaclear Micro Foam. Sorry to say that was a complete and utter NO for me. However, everything else worked really well, especially at this time when I needed something to really sooth my skin. Out of the entire set What I decided to repurchase and fell totally in love with were the Cicapair Night Repair, Cicapair Re-cover and the Soothing Hydra Solution  Mask.

  • (Using Cicapair Re-cover as foundation)

🚩Honorable mention though was definitely the Dermaclear Micro Water. I really did like it, but I have several other cleansing waters that I’m already using right now.  However I might pick it up in the future when I have a need because I know it’s an excellent option.

Some of the Cicapair collection as well as Dermaclear collection from Dr Jart can be found in your local Sephora if you are in the USA/Canada. If you’re lucky enough to live in Asia, you can find the Cicapair line at your local Olive Young .
