Oil Cleansers: VANT 36.5 and Tony Moly

In one of my usual runs through my local Tony Moly store, I was in the market for a new oil cleanser.  Actually, my first…though technically I’ve been using oils to cleanse my face for 10 years. I’ve been a religiously loyal user of organic extra virgin unrefined coconut oil ever since my last bought with acne and delving into Ayurvedic skin care.  However, if you too are a user of coconut oil to cleanse/moisturize your face, you’ll agree its a messy business.  Coconut oil, depending on the room or your hands’ temperature, transforms from a liquid to a solid and back.  The typical container has a screw-on lid which eventually(like the one in my kitchen for cooking) gets messy and covered in the oil.

I decided I wanted to try something that came in a pump form…NO MESS!!! I spotted the Tony Moly Smokey Cleansing Oil for heavier makeup users(huge neon arrow points to little ol’ me) and just went for it. The oil was a bit thicker than their other options and the star ingredient was coconut oil. Perfect.

Fast forward 2 months, and I’m halfway through the oil cleanser but not particularly happy with it. Don’t get me wrong, it does the job and for a decent price but, I didn’t like the artificial perfumy scent(hard to get away from in Korea) nor did the ingredients on a closer look really wow me.  I decided to put a little more thought into it this time and came back with this little beauty…

Vant 36.5 Camellia Cleansing Oil

Star ingredient: Fermented Camellia Oil *

A few things to know…

  • Camellia oil(tsubaki oil) is rich in oleic acid and vitamins A, B, D and E as well as Omega 3, 6 and 9. Similar to Jojoba oil, Camellia oil is similar molecular size to human sebum and thus, absorbed easily.
  • Geisha used the oil to remove their iconic stage makeup without stripping their skin of natural oils.
  • Camellia oil has more naturally-occurring antioxidants than most other botanically derived oil.

At first inspection, the oil is light to medium consistency with the soft floral scent or Ylang-Ylang(my all time favorite scent!!!). The oil easily took off the days makeup including my new Holika Holika Transformer Mascara(…post coming soon) which doesn’t budge for anything!  After quick splash of water, my skin is left feeling totally smooth and hydrated to prep for my other evening products. Been using just a few days now and it is unlikely this lovely product will leave my beauty routine any time soon!

Find Vant 36.5 products throughout Seoul department stores, duty free shops, gangnam underground mall.  For those of you outside of Korea, you can order from Green Alley .
